The records for Nansemond County and Suffolk were burned last in 1866.
Some records have been rerecorded in the surrounding counties of Isle of
Wight, Norfolk and Southampton Counties of Virginia and Gates County in
North Carolina.
The Norfolk County records are in Portsmouth, Va.
There are Bible records the Fillmore Norfleet book "Bible Records of
Suffolk
and Nansemond County, Virginia" paperback.
He also wrote a book "Suffolk In Virginia" 1795 - 1840
I've also sent quite a few area Bible records to the Library of Virginia
(over 250)
I also have the cemetery records for that area on-line, of course there are
still many family cemeteries to be found.
Look for family Surnames booklets and papers.
More of Fillmore Norfleet's papers are in the library of University of
Virginia
Prentis papers (early lawyer in Nansemond) are in the University of North
Carolina library I believe.
There are other sources.

If you want our local websites that cover Suffolk/Nansemond, Franklin,
Southampton and Isle of Wight let me know.
What families are you looking for?

Subject: [VA-ROOTS] Nansemond county

I have been unable to obtain early (1610-1650) information on Nansemond
County due to natural catastrophies:: burned courthouse, records lost
....as
well as political reasons e.g. absorption of the county into other
civil-political entities. Any help out there with court, chancery or
county
data? Thanks in advance. George Williams
