Good morning, Records Officers! I hope you've all had a good Thanksgiving holiday.

A question was raised this morning about what to do with old records of veterinary treatment of animals, and it exposed what would appear to be a significant gap in both the state agency (community college vet tech programs) and local government (animal shelters, etc) retention schedules because the only records series available for veterinary treatment are specific to Virginia Tech and its vet school; the only animal-related series on general schedules are related to bites, quarantines, and rabies testing rather than more routine veterinary care or other records pertaining to the maintenance and adoption of animals in local shelters.

If possible, I'd love to get a half dozen or so volunteers together to work on a series or three to address these records. If you are interested, please contact me off-list at [log in to unmask] - I would hope to get started in mid-December with an eye to presenting schedules for approval at the March meeting of the Records Oversight Committee.

Thanks!
