Dear Virginia records management officers:
Below are links to two events VCOG is hosting next month that you may be interested in.
The first is VCOG’s annual conference on Nov. 16 in Richmond.
We will have panels on journalists who now work as government information officers, the Rolling Stone case from the perspective of a journalist and a 1st Amendment scholar, a comparison of provisions in Virginia and North Carolina, research on the pressures front-line FOIA personnel feel from management, when requesters have to call in the lawyers, and possibly something on campaign finance. Also, we have a stand-up routine by Beau Cribbs, a political humorist. It’s a jam-packed agenda.
Tickets are $30 for VCOG members, $40 for non-members (after Oct. 27, each goes up by $5)
The second is a dinner honoring Maria Everett on Nov. 15 in Richmond.
As anyone who ever relied on Maria’s advice at the FOIA Council can attest, she is one of a kind, and we at the Virginia Coalition for Open Government owe her a debt of gratitude. She has the remarkable ability to make FOIA entertaining and engaging, but still always informative. She retired in August and we are all going to miss her, but now’s our chance to thank her for her service.
Tickets are $100 or $700/table of 8.
We hope to see you at either or both.
Megan
