If a check is returned because of insufficient funds, the bank only sends us a copy of the check, not the actual check. We are not equipped to deposit checks remotely – via scanning.

All,

I am doing some research to identify how other jurisdictions treat retention of checks that have been received.

1.       When a constituent pays and their account has insufficient funds, do you retain the checks?

2.       Technology has changed such that we can now deposit constituent checks remotely – via scanning.  Do you retain the scanned version of these checks as well?

Any feedback is much appreciated!

Thanks,

Chad
