Decoding an Electronic Records Data Breach
The rising volume of electronic records data breaches that occur each year is an uncomfortable reminder that personal
and health information intrusions affect even the best run organizations. This program will define a data breach, outline the federal and state laws and regulations that come into play, identify notification triggers, and highlight the time-sensitive steps
that must be taken in the aftermath.
Speaker: Jonathan M. Joseph
Jonathan M. Joseph is a partner at the Richmond law firm of Christian & Barton, where he serves as leader of the
health care practice group. In his practice he advises clients on topics such as data breach and data storage issues, acquisitions, contracts and compliance issues, federal health reform and HIPAA. Jon is currently an adjunct professor of health law for the
Master of Health Administration program at Virginia Commonwealth University, and an established author—his most recent publication is a 50-state survey of data breach notification laws. Jon is a past chair of the Health Law Section of the Virginia Bar Association
and he has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, Virginia Super Lawyers and Virginia Business Magazine’s Legal Elite.
