I have no idea about the value of horses in 1860, but one of my ancestors was involved in selling them. He is Isham Hall Williams, born 10 December 1825 in Scott County, VA. As a young man he traveled with some of his brothers and neighbors to Missouri. He did a lot of traveling after his arrival in MO. In 1849, he and some friends went to California to find their fortune in gold. When they did not, he boarded a ship at San Francisco and traveled (either around the world or around S. America). After returning to Missouri and marrying, he and an elder brother (known as Jockey), made trips to Texas where they rounded up wild horses, herded them back to Missouri and sold them. Much of this is not documented, but records show that his two eldest daughters and the eldest son of his brother settled in Hill County, Texas about 1879. In a message dated 4/4/2014 1:40:23 P.M. They pulled plows, mowers. You could not operate a farm without a horse or mule. They were replaced by tractor and motor power equipment Reg Vassar ____________________________________________________________ Old School Yearbook Pics View Class Yearbooks Online Free.
