Something I have done in the past is ask for “records management” stories from departments and offices, and then share these via a website or newsletter to everyone.  The best story gets a prize (pizza lunch, etc.)  It give the people who think about records management and follow the rules a way to “brag” and get some recognition – and it shares real world stories with others who may not be thinking about records management, but might be motivated to take some action so they have a story to win the next year!

Fellow Records Managers and Officers,

 

I am in the process of developing a new way (or ways) to promote RIMM next year in April.  In the past we’ve placed an article in our city employee newsletter, an article in our records newsletter, distributed a RIM flyer each week during the month to our reps/coordinators, etc.  However, I want to do something next year that will really grab employees, get their attention and have them take notice within their own programs.  The City has a shredding vendor under contract so I don’t envision a “shred day” per se.  Do you have anything planned yet for your organization?  If so, can you share your ideas?
