Good afternoon, VA-ROL,

As records officers and coordinators, part of your responsibilities include training staff in records management policies and procedures. In order to make that task a little easier, the Records Analysis Section will be undertaking a new project - the creation of one-page tip sheets. These will be aimed at a general audience of non-records officers, and it's our hope that you'll share these tip sheets with management, staff, and IT through your agency intranet, staff bulletin boards, and training for new employees.

Tip sheets will be designed to compliment the guidance we currently create, such as the Virginia Public Records Management Manual. These are not meant to duplicate information that currently exists on the web site, such as instructions for completing forms or tips for searching the General Schedules. Instead, these will be a FAQ style document.

The first tip sheet, on managing social media as a public record, is available at http://www.lva.virginia.gov/agencies/records/tips/. You can also reach the tip sheets through our main site, http://www.lva.virginia.gov/agencies/records/, under Publications. Check back often for new sheets.

If you have suggestions for the types of content you'd like to see covered in a tip sheet, contact me off-list.
