From Richmond PD: Many years ago we had records in the basement of the old HQ and had leaks from drainage pipes.  Some of the stored records were damaged but we could retrieve all that we needed.  In our new building we have a more secure storage areas.  But I am interested in what agencies are scanning documents for storage, to include, types of records, any court issues, etc.

Kathy,

I responded to a semi-large courthouse records disaster in the early 1980s and a very small incident at a state agency about 10 years ago.  Let me know if you’d like to talk.  And hopefully you’ll hear from another member of the listserv who responded to a massive records disaster in Buchanan County in 1977 as well as several other incidents over the years.

Good Morning Everyone

Our Agency would like to do a Records Continuity Exercise.  I am writing to ask if any of you have experienced an actual records disaster and/or participated in a hard copy or physical records recovery.  By sharing a real event our hope is that the participants will get more personally invested in records recovery planning.  We will be using a water damage scenario.  If you have any experience or information to share we would love to have it.

Thank you

Kathy
