Subject: Re: [VA-ROOTS] Orphans in Henrico/Chesterfield Co 1725

Margie,

Chesterfield Co., VA (south of the James River) did not exist as a "named
county" until 1749....when it was created from a part of Henrico Co., VA.
Prior to 1749, that area was still called Henrico Co., VA (which was then on
BOTH sides of the James River). Henrico (created in 1634) was one of the
original eight "shires" in Virginia. So....all of the dates that you show
were before Chesterfield Co., VA actually existed. As such, perhaps the
guardianship records were for the part of Henrico Co., VA that was south of
the James River....and that LATER became Chesterfield Co., VA. I would
check Chesterfield Co., VA for those records.
