My compliments and best wishes to all of the responders to the initial question. What a marvelous resource for everyone!
I only have a few further recommendations beyond the great information already provided by others. I recommend a scanning accuracy rate of around 99.5%. (No system can guarantee perfection but anything less and your system won’t be considered trustworthy by your end-users or third parties.) Also, you (or the vendor if you choose to outsource) should have a quality control (QC) program to ensure the images are complete and accurate. And finally, you (or you AND the vendor) should have quality assurance (QA)programs to ensure you are getting the quality you need. The vendor should have good QC and QA so you aren’t constantly receiving bad images and you should have a good QA program before you pay for the scanning or destroy the originals.
