In 1893 a Richmond newspaper described him as a “jolly little ghoul.” Chris Baker was a respected “anatomical man” in the white community, procuring cadavers by extralegal means for the dissection room at the Medical College of Virginia. In the city’s African American community he was reviled and is still present in living memory. Local Records Senior Archivist Vince Brooks brings to light the story of Richmond’s “resurrectionist” Chris Baker in this week’s Halloween edition of the Out of the Box blog from the archivists at the Library of Virginia. http://www.virginiamemory.com/blogs/out_of_the_box/ To subscribe, change options, or unsubscribe, please see the instructions at http://listlva.lib.va.us/archives/va-roots.html
