In this week’s blog entry archivist Jim Greve presents personal letters from our collection that reveal the pain one Virginia family experienced upon the death of a loved one in action during the Civil War. These letters and similar materials help bridge the nearly 150-year gap between that generation and the present one. Countless documents like these are still in private hands. The CW150 Legacy Project, a joint venture of the Library of Virginia and the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission, is now in progress, traveling the state to locate and digitally scan historic Civil War-era documents not housed in archives. The generosity of Virginia's citizens is bringing to light thousands of documents and family stories. http://www.virginiamemory.com/blogs/out_of_the_box/ To subscribe, change options, or unsubscribe, please see the instructions at http://listlva.lib.va.us/archives/va-roots.html
