Hello - This may be a good time to remind people about the Virginia Heritage project. Since about 2000, 23 Virginia "academic" libraries, including the Library of Virginia, UVa, and VPI, have created "a database of guides, or finding aids, describing archives and manuscripts in repositories in the Commonwealth of Virginia." This database is maintained at UVa and is available free to the public. Here's the website: http://www2.lib.virginia.edu/small/vhp/ When you click on the SEARCH THE DATABASE link, you'll get a form with which to search. Jean L. As an example Library of Va holds 2 letters from William Robert Elam, Va 18th Va Infantry and UVA library holds about another 15 or so.
