Virginia law didn't require the registering of marriages with the county clerk until 1780. Before that date a couple might only announce banns and have their wedding recorded by the church. Most Virginia church marriage registers for the colonial period (including for Albemarle County's parishes) are not known to exist. If a couple preferred to take out a bond instead, there might be a record in the clerk's office. If the bonds themselves are not extant, the clerk's fee book might report the names of the couple (or at least the groom) and the date the fee was paid. Donald L. What maps would be best to look at in order to determine where the land would be located? Three-Notched road is mentioned in several deeds - Sharon To subscribe, change options, or unsubscribe, please see the instructions at http://listlva.lib.va.us/archives/va-roots.html
