Everyone,
As you aware most of
the Commonwealth has experienced a round of very heavy rain the past few
days. I wanted to remind everyone who has responsibility for public
records to take a moment and assess your records and discover if any damage may
have occurred to your records due to flooding and/or water
leaks.
I am sure everyone
has taken all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of yourself and your
work areas. But it is wise to take a few moments to check on your records
storage areas to ensure that everything is safe and dry.
Remember, damage can
also occur if you lost power in your facility. Bad air circulation and
damp conditions outside may lead to mold. If you suspect any mold growth
has occured, please do not touch any material with your naked hands, but wear
gloves and other protection. It is best not to handle any mold
contaminated material at all, but to contact either your Disaster Recovery
contacts or your agency's emergency response personnel.
If you have
discovered any damage, please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the
Records Analysts here at the Library. We can provide assistance with
documenting any damage, guidance on how to recover or assess damaged records
and, if you do not have a contract with a recovery agency, can point you in the
right direction to begin a recovery process.
And remember, the
Library's State Records Center does have equipment that can assist with damaged
records on a temporary basis and start the recovery process.
Please give me a
call at 804-692-3609 or the main Records Analysis number at 804-692-3600 if you
have any questions or concerns. We are here to help!
