I have been asked what courthouses in TN burned, when, and what records survived Here is a complete list HYPERLINK "http://www.mytennesseegenealogy.com/index.htm"http://www.mytennesseegenealo gy.com/index.htm _____ From: jeanine scholz [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2007 6:18 AM To: Paul Drake Subject: RE: Jeanine Scholz 126 Riverwoods Drive New Hope, PA 18938 Paul Drake <[log in to unmask]> wrote: Send me your snail mail address, please _____ From: jeanine scholz [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Monday, August 13, 2007 5:39 PM To: Paul Drake Subject: RE: That is really kind of you. Just being able to talk about it is enough for me, and knowing someone who does have some mementoes from the war is quite exciting. Paul Drake <[log in to unmask]> wrote: Maybe I will send along a couple items that you might enjoy. Most of my 55 years collection has been carried off by my kids. I don't think I have really read the observations of participants in general but it sounds quite interesting to me. I have so much I want to read and so little time to do it. I would love to have some mementoes but have absolutely nothing from my family on my father's side and a few token things on my mother's side. I pass by some of the antique stores around here that advertise they carry things from the Civil War and would love to go in sometime just to see what the stuff looks like. Paul Drake <[log in to unmask]> wrote: I am doing much better than I have for the last 4 or 5 years, and thanks for asking. I will be OK one day before long. :-) I have not read your suggestion, having preferred field reports and words of the participants who were there. On both sides were Drakes and Midlams (my maternal lines), and have gathered no small number of mementos. As we speak, directly behind me is the wonderful 128 volumes of the "War Of The Rebellion", to which I have referred a thousand times or more over the last 40 years. I have used Shelby Foote's works many times. I also have MANY maps of the war and the period and enjoy those. I think Kearns and Wills are wonderful writers and well researched, but I have had no time in life for commentary and but precious little time for Lincoln or the great figures of that day from Jackson to Webster to Calhoun to Lee or Forrest. Maybe some day I will have that leisure time, but that time is not now. Are you a memento collector ? _____ From: jeanine scholz [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Monday, August 13, 2007 4:44 PM To: Paul Drake Subject: RE: OK, I read every book I could get my hands on as a kid about Lincoln and a good amount of books about the war. I have just started to read about Lincoln again, did you read Doris Kerns Goodwin's book, "Team of Rivals?" Really very well done. I also read the Wills book about Lincoln at Gettysburg. Actually, the one ancestor that fought in the CW that was of the most interest to me was my father's gg grandfather, Martin Sonnenberg. He came to the US from Germany in 1853 and fought in the war. I had actually started doing genealogy because I knew little about my father's side, he died when I was 14 and my mother was not that interested in his family. I still do not have an awful lot on the Sonneberg's, or most of his other ancestors, at least not nearly as much as I have on my mother's side. You still didn't say how you are doing now. I have not really tried to see myself as others see me, only see what I don't like, I have a long list of complaints about myself. Paul Drake <[log in to unmask]> wrote: I did. There is NOTHING wrong with you or the other small handful of beautiful women who have looked for me. I simply think that you are so particular about every feature - whether from actresses, beauty contests, or what - that you and all but one of my past "subjects" can not see the woods because the trees are so close together. _____ From: jeanine scholz [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Monday, August 13, 2007 1:14 PM To: Paul Drake Subject: RE: I have the 3 chapters printed out and am looking forward to reading them, thank you so much.
