Carrying Paul's theme a step further:  On the same page Harmon Hardwick,
Adam Hocker, and others are listed as one tithable with no slaves or horses
and are charged no tax, so perhaps they were not collecting a poll tax that
year.

I notice that other entries on that same page reveal the presence of a
single tithable and a horse, and also are taxed 12 cents.  Then too, in
other entries where there was one tithable and 2 horses, the assessment was
24 cents.  Further, where there is one tithable, one slave and 2 horses the
assessmnt is 69 cents.  Thus it would seem that you will have to read the
legislation or the court orders, both of which will set forth the ordered
taxing to understand the sums.  Paul
