For whatever it's worth: The message Kathryn sent came to my mail box in clear English.  
Perhaps it's something in  your settings, Kathleen?  Or, more likely, it's one of those computer-gremlins that plague us day after day.  (These gremlins do seem more active when aol is involved.)
