Hello Everyone,

Were young, single widows, who were heads of households charged a tithe or
poll tax (not the property/land tax) in the 1700s in Virginia?  I seem to
remember that they were exempt.

On another list a researcher said that in Maryland, in the 1770s at least,
they were counted and taxed just like a male head of household.
