I am trying to find a military roster list which would show Thomas Alley b. ca 1722-1780 as a soldier wounded at Buford's defeat and dying of wounds around 1780. Thomas lived in Henrico..and perhaps "Montgomery Court Va Session April 5, 1787 Satisfactory proof being made to this Court that Jane Alleyh is entitled to the pay of Thomas Alley her husband who dyed of his wounds received at Buford's Defeat." My questioning is that hand me down records show Thomas Alley with a wife Jane Ealey (?) meaning no one is sure of her name. I have been unable to find anything on Thomas service records or verification of her name. There appear to be no records to be found on her proof. I did run across a Thomas Ely, wife Jane, fully recorded and documented who served under Buford, was wounded and died later. He lived in Bedford Co . and is shown in Ecenrode's " Revolutionary War List" jane lived in Montgomery County and then Lee Co. Is this a transposition on the court record..from Ely to Alley and was this picked up by Alley Historians (Sumner shows it in his book)and passed down and it should be Ely history? I would like verification of Thomas Alley's service before I send the request for service and pension records to NARA. Any help appreciated. Marilyn L.
