The Alexandria Library, Special Collections launched a new online index, “Civil War Era Burials – Alexandria National Cemetery.” While not as large nor as well known as its neighbor in Arlington, the Alexandria National Cemetery is the final resting place for nearly 3400 Federal soldiers, 229 USCT, 2 sailors, 2 women, and the 4 men who died in pursuit of John Wilkes Booth, April 24, 1865. Also cited is the late Dr. Edward A. Miller's 241 page, 1998 unpublished manuscript, also in our collection, that provides extensive biographical information about the USCT in the cemetery as well as corrects the original 1866 Roll of Honor for the USCT.
