Please excuse any cross postings. The index to the chancery records of Richmond Co. from 1748-1958 has been added to the Library of Virginia's Chancery Records Index Web site. Richmond Co. is in the Northern Tidewater region which adds it to the records of four other localities available for searching in that region: Gloucester, Lancaster, Middlesex and York. The Richmond Co. records are microfilmed. You may view the microfilm at the Library of Virginia, the Richmond Co. Circuit Court clerk's office, or order mircofilm reels through InterLibrary Loan. The oversized documents are currently being filmed and will be available soon. Five cases were left off of the microfilm and are also currently being filmed. They are: 1859-009 Brownlee v. Kelly, 1861-010 Pridham v. Beale, 1928-010 Fisher v. Fisher, 1929-016 Lumpkin v. Edwards, and 1929-017 Gdn. of Thrift v. Thrift. Please be sure to check the "What's Available" page of the Chancery Records Index to see all the localities that have indexes posted and records ready for viewing. To access the Chancery Records Index, visit the Library of Virginia's homepage at http://www.lva.lib.va.us/, click on "What We Have", click on "County and City Records", and then click on "Chancery Records Index."
