What you are looking at is basically a tax list. A tithable is a tax paid my every male inn the county over a certain age. The fact that someone appears on the tax list means that they are legally of age and own something that is being taxed. You will have to look at the document itself to determine what the numbers mean, but it is probably currency. Since the date is 1679, the currency is in pounds and shillings, not dollars. As far as names go, our ancestors were not always the best educated people. Most spelled phonetically, if they could spell at all. This applies even to county officials. Also, local accents and dialects influenced how words were spoken and heard. So, it is quite possible that Pinkett and Puckett could be the same surname. But the evidence in the documents you found is not conclusive. You need supporting documents to sort it out. -- Donald W.
