>SR. & JR., in a Census or PPT listing for example, does not always mean Father & Son. Does "miller" stand for the profession or something else? I can only say that every time I've seen this designation, it meant the profession of the person - I knew that person was a miller from various other sources. I'm curious why you ask - have you found somebody designated as "miller" that you think was not the operator of a mill? As you probably know, Sr. and Jr. could mean uncle & nephew or simply older and younger men with the same name, not even necessarily related - unfortunately. My favorites are when they designate John Smith by where he lives - as in "John Smith (Back Creek)" and "John Smith (Low Ground)". That's immensely helpful when untangling folks! --Holly To subscribe, change options, or unsubscribe please see the instructions at http://listlva.lib.va.us/archives/va-roots.html
