I am trying to identify the two J. Heflin names on an 1864 Confederate Map of Stafford Co., VA. The names are on a line due West of Garrison, Stafford Co. to the Fauquier Co. border. A lot of people who lived in Stafford Co. near the Fauquier line attended church at the Grove Baptist Church (Fauquier) and the Rock Hill Baptist Church (Stafford). If anyone can help, it would be appreciated. Thanks Phyllis. I believe the most likely candidates are: James Edwin Hefflin b 1823, m 1848 Susan Patterson, s/o James Hefferlin & Mary Anna Walker. James Edwin Heflin and his wife Susan raised the infant daughter, Sally, of his brother Absolom whose second wife died and left him with two small children. James bought a lot in Falmouth, Stafford Co., in 1871. He released the rights to the store house lot in Falmouth in 1877. In the 1860 Census for Stafford Courthouse, Stafford Co., VA James Heflin (40), farmer, owned 100 acres, was living with his wife Susan (40) and Sally (8), daughter of Absolom Heflin. A Lucy Jones (17) is also living with him. John E. Heflin b 1809 Stafford Co., m 1839 Lucretia Courtney, s/o James Hefferlin & Mary Anna Walker. On the marriage document it states that Lucretia Courtney is the daughter of Alces (Alice Ennis) and the ward of Alexander (John E. Heflin's uncle). John Hefflin and Alexander Courtney were bondsmen. Lucretia died 1893 and was removed from the roles of the Grove Baptist Church. The Grove Baptist Church is located in the lower part of Fauquier Co., VA, near Somerville, Elk Run, and Morrisville. There is more information on the Grove Baptist Church relative to Baptisms, Admission, Death, Dismissal, Exclusion, Membership Roles in the NGS Library in Washington, DC. James Lee Heflin b ca 1825, m ca 1846 Elizabeth Bowling, s/o William Strother Hefling Sr. In the 1860 Stafford Courthouse, Stafford Co., VA James L. Heflin (33), farmer, was living with his wife Elizabeth M. (35) and their children Warren O. (12), James Thomas (8), Benton (6), and James (Could this be Alexander S.?). James L. Heflin Sr. was drafted 10 April 1862, served in Confederate Company "B", 47th Virginia Infantry, Discharged 29 April 1862 due to disability. Had light complexion, light hair, and was 6'2" tall. Jefferson W. Heflin b 1810, m Julia A. Templeman, s/o William Hefflinger & Margaret. William Heflin estate division of lands in Stafford Co. sold with proceeds to James L. Heflin and Charles S. Heflin. William's wife was Elizabeth. Is this William Hefflinger aka William Strother Hefling Sr.? John E. Heflin b 1813 Stafford Co., m ca 1839 Ann Delia Heflin, s/o William Hefflinger & Margaret.
