Well I have two comments on this thread. One is that I don't really see anything offensive, etc. Enough said on that score. Next as to the what Geo. Washington did after the surrender of Cornwallis. Fact: He did "retire" to Mt. Vernon for a short period to get his affairs regarding the plantation back in order and to visit with family. It was a very trying time as his stepson, John Parke "Jacky" Custis had died and he was consoling Martha (his wife and the mother of Jacky Custis). This was in 1781. He like many other Virginia planters took great interest in the workings of their plantations and new and inovative methods virtually out of necessity. So yes, in some ways he exhibited some of the traits reflected by Martha Stewart in her shows regarding domestic endeavors in the house and gardens. Thus, what I saw written regarding George Washington and the comparisons to Martha Stewart were not so very much out of line IMHO. -----Original Message----- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 03:50:42 -0600 From: malinda <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Re: Who Killed Gen. Edw. Braddock 1755?? Hello Janet, I would like to go on record as saying that I found your remarks about both Martha Stewart and George Washington to be glib, inaccurate, unnecessary, exploitative, inflammatory and offensive. I very much resent being subjected to such extraneous commentary. Just my opinion...and I'm entitled to it Thank you, malinda jones Janet Hunter wrote: > Fellow Virginia Researchers: > >....
