Greetings: I publish a genealogical newsletter and also conduct research in original records for case studies for an online project, "Narratives in Black and White", which features endnotes; My BA is in History and so I'm trained in Chicago style which is the standard citation style used by historical writers and academics. APA is usually used in the Humanities. As a professional genealogist with training in historical research, I use Chicago in all my citations, but sometimes, will expand the citation to make it clearer. This is acceptable and even advised to do so in Chicago Manual of Style (CMS). Some genealogists use Mill's "Evidence!" style in their genealogy work, but I find it's redundant and unnecessary if one is already trained in a citation style appropriate to his field of study. Hope that helps.
