In the several antebellum editions of the journal of Lorenzo Dow, an early-19th-century Methodist itinerant preacher active in Virginia, N.C. and elsewhere, Dow frequently refers to "A-double-L-part people" as adversaries who sometimes disrupted his preaching, etc. Anyone know what "A-double-L-part people" refers to?
