Every now and then I bring this up in hopes that new researchers and readers will recognize or know answers to my questions.

We own the oldest house in the Church Hill (Richmond, VA) section of town - the Capt. Charles Wills mansion built in 1812 (201-years old). I know a little about his family who lived in the Isle of Wight and Warwick Counties area of Virginia and he moved to Richmond by 1801 according to tax records. Very little is known though about the house itself other than what is seen on the Mutual Assurance and Sanborn maps, City Directories, and a chain of ownership Deeds I have dating back to 1900. I do know that all of the various out buildings are gone but the winter kitchen in the basement is still there. Capt. Wills owned 9 slaves and was a wealthy grocer merchant. His title, we believe, came from his militia duty probably with Camp Holly Springs after the War of 1812 which he served in. Problem is we know he served under Ballowe one time yet the list of Captains under his name for the militia does not show Wills (or the one I saw online at least) and we don't think he was a ship captain because he was a foot soldier in the Army by all accounts found thus far. He died in 1820 at age 44.

I am seeking any documents that may mention or show this house. I also understand that any history concerning North of Broad Street especially the Shed Town area (which this house borders) is almost non existent for some reason?

Any help is appreciated!

Eric
