It was the home of William Taliaferro d. 1817 and his wife Elizabeth Hartwell Cocke Taliaferro. There are two William Taliaferro's on the 1815 land tax list, one who lived 6 miles southwest of the courthouse and one who was 14 miles northeast of same.
