Thanks Vince. Yes, was using the Made Goodrich W.P.A. report as for photo year. Since my last post where I found information on the 707-1/2 N 30th Wills House this past Saturday, I found the Mutual Assurance policy on it which in January 1820 started as a "new" house. Apparently Capt. Wills also built a new wooden house in 1816 next door to it closer to N Street on N 30th. He built several properties in Church Hill, Shockoe, and Shed Town area. The house we live in (407 N 27th) which he and others called then the main "mansion" house, isn't part of Madge Goodrich's inventory even though it is the oldest house in Church Hill today. Not sure why she did not include it but did so with the brick house next door at 405 N 27th, was built by Capt. Wills' daughter Sarah and her husband John Alvey in 1835. John Alvey committed suicide by drowning in 1837 and Sarah died in 1862. Eric, I assume you base your 1938 date on the survey report of the Virginia Historical Inventory. http://image.lva.virginia.gov/VHI/html/14/0515.html I took a look at the Richmond Esthetic Survey (http://www.lva.virginia.gov/public/guides/opac/aboutres.htm)from the mid-1960s and that property doesn't show up. That may mean it was gone already (or they just didn't photograph it). You might try following the property through the tax records to see when it goes off the rolls. If you think it was torn down b/c the pumping station was constructed, the city's public works department reports might include comments on properties to be demolished. Anyway, just some thoughts. Good luck. Vince Brooks * * * This E-mail, along with any attachments, is considered confidential and may well be legally privileged.
