I am pleased to see some entries concerning the James River. I am trying to locate "Wards reach 4 miles below Richmond", the spot where Gabriel boarded Captain Taylor's sloop in order to escape capture after Gabriel's conspiracy was discovered in 1800. Later references locate Ward's reach near Drewry's Bluff, which is certainly more than 4 miles below Richmond. I would appreciate learning exactly where Ward's reach was in 1800 or so.
