B. Lewis Blackford was a Confederate surveyor during the Civil War and a talented artist. He sketched what he saw as he traveled around Virginia and North Carolina. This week’s Out of the Box blog entry is about a notebook he kept during the war which is now part of the Library of Virginia's Private Papers Collection. An earlier notebook kept by Blackford was captured by Union soldiers and published in full by a New York newspaper according to his brother. We don’t know if it survives -- perhaps you can help pinpoint its whereabouts?
