One of my ancestors, William Henry Pinn served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. In his Pension Application he states that he was Born Free, and he lived in Stapleton and served at Eagle Rock. The application is dated 1924. He started his service in 1862 and left in 1865. He stated that he was a Teamster on a Freight Boat and a Cooper, and barrel maker. He did not mention a unit, only that he served under Captain Purnell and Jack Horner.

My Pinn ancestors were originally from Lancaster and Northumberland County in Virginia. My ancestor, Rawley Pinn served an apprenticeship as a Cooper when he was in Lancaster County. He also served in the Revolutionary War out of Amherst County, and was a farmer in Stapleton. William Pinn was Rawley and his wife, Sara's. William Henry was living in Boutetout County, and 79 at the time of the application.

This is the first actual document of my Virginia ancestors who served with the Confederates. It is interesting that William was not with a Unit, but held more of a support position.

If anyone wants a copy please email me separately, and I will forward.
