The 1807 version of the Madison map of Virginia (which is what began the
recent discussions about maps and images) is available on the Virginia
Memory portion of the Library of Virginia's Web site,
http://www.lva.virginia.gov

Just click Virginia Memory, and there it is in the What's New column.
Thanks to Kathy Jordan who, noticing this discussion, put it there for
ease of access and to alert viewers to other online map resources.

It is true that some of the Mutual Assurance Society images are not so
clear as the images that we have mounted lately. That was one of the
first collections that the Library of Virginia made available online at
a time when scanning images from good quality microfilm was recommended.
That was in the 1990s. The resolution, alas, is not at the standard we
now expect, although some of our online collections prepared that way
are quite good.

Please feel free to brag on anything that you find useful on our site or
to send us comments on anything that you think may need improvement.

Happy clicking.
