A very good start. As you know, relative to our Virginia, I wave the flag adnausem of... Preserve Share & Celebrate These folks have struck a major blow for "Share" by making the info available online, which naturally leads to Celebration. My interests are primarily WWI and WWII, and so I suggest for future topics. - WWI - Base Hospital #45 - The McGuire Medical Unit in France. There is a book on the unit, but I have a diary that my father kept for the first couple of months, that I would be more than happy to share. It is in PDF format. - WWII - German U-Boats off Virginia. A wealth of info, and I believe a reporter at the Norfolk Virginian Pilot is writing on this. The Germans conduct a service every year in November for the men of the U-85 who are buried in the Hampton National Cemetery. There is also a wealth of information at the University of Virginia, mostly historical papers and books, and I would think that there is a terrific opportunity for VFH to provide links to sites of interest. Keep up the good work. So what does "Beta" mean? It means that we do not have a critical mass of content yet (so do not be completely crushed if you search for Robert E. Lee or Sally Hemmings and do not find them--they will be there over time); it means we are still adding content every week; and it also means that the interface, design, search, and other technical functionalities (while largely in place) are still being refined. I invite you to explore the site (http://www.encyclopediavirginia.org/) and to offer us feedback (you will find a link at the end of each encyclopedia entry allowing you to provide that feedback). Let us know what you think of the content, the design, the whole EV experience. Most of what is currently up on the site falls into the categories of literature, twentieth century history, and the Civil War. And speaking of the Civil War, the Virginia Sesquicentennial Commission website (http://vacivilwar.org) has picked up our Civil War content (look under their Education tab) and will continue to add more of our content as we continue to publish it. The work they are doing is great, and we urge you to explore their site as well. Thanks!
