Well, if you present something as a fact in a published book, and it  
isn't a fact, then what what would you call it?  Is it true, or is it  
a lie, or is it something inbetween, as in an OPINION.

And what would you suggest we call the person who wrote it?  A liar?   
Or does prevaricator sound better?  Is she the font of all truth?  
Then prophetess and seer or fortune teller or occultist would be better.

Words do mean things, and so do statements.  So, in my opinion, those  
venturing into murky waters with proclamations of knowing the total  
truth of events they did not witness invites well deserved skeptisim  
and yes, critisism.  If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the  
kitchen.
