Public Library Consultant Library Specialist III - Position #113 Pay Band 5 - $40,959 to $84,062 The Library of Virginia is seeking a seasoned, dynamic Public Library Consultant. This position offers a unique opportunity to support the development of public libraries in Virginia by providing directors, trustees, Friends of the Library, and local government officials with information on best practices for all aspects of library management. The consultant provides orientation for new library directors, develops and presents workshops for trustees, and serves as the library director's reference librarian. The consultant will assist with public library data collection and analysis. Qualifications s Graduation from an ALA accredited university with a Master's degree in Library Science. s Virginia Professional Librarian Certificate or ability to obtain. s Considerable professional library experience required with public library experience highly desirable. s Knowledge of and prior experience in long-range planning, budgeting and human resource management. s Prior experience and demonstrated ability working with governing boards. s Considerable knowledge of library management, both practical and theoretical. s Knowledge of trends in library services; of techniques in planning, implementing, and evaluation of library services and programs. s Knowledge of the principles, practices, and policies of public management. s Ability to conduct research and to plan and conduct programs. s Public speaking skills for groups of all sizes. s Ability to analyze operational and program needs and develop solutions. s Ability to work both independently and in teams internally and externally. s Demonstrated ability to develop strong working relationships with public library directors, trustees and others. s Skill in the use of computers and standard applications in the modern office environment including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. s Excellent verbal and written communication skills. s Must be highly flexible and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously. s Valid Virginia driver's license or ability to obtain. s Available to travel frequently; occasionally overnight. s Must pass a background check.
