Someone (who only had an email address as "Sharp" so I cannot thank the person properly) sent me this off list; thought I would share it with every one else. At least some of journals of the House of B. appear to be on line.. http://books.google.com/books?id=3PstAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA119&dq=Journal+of+the+House+of+Burgesses+intitle:Journals+intitle:of+intitle:the+intitle:House+intitle:of+intitle:Burgesses&lr=&num=100&as_brr=1&as_pt=ALLTYPES ---- Paul Finkelman President William McKinley Distinguished Professor of Law Albany Law School 80 New Scotland Avenue Albany, NY 12208 518-445-3386 (p) 518-445-3363 (f) [log in to unmask] www.paulfinkelman.com --- On Mon, 12/22/08, Eric Grundset <[log in to unmask]> wrote: From: Eric Grundset <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Re: [VA-HIST] regulation of slave trade on eve of Revolution To: "Discussion of research and writing about Virginia history" <[log in to unmask]>, [log in to unmask] Date: Monday, December 22, 2008, 9:14 AM Perhaps the following article will help with this question. It addresses the Virginia act and the English response. MacMaster, Richard K. “Arthur Lee’s ‘Address on Slavery’: An Aspect of Virginia’s Struggle to End the Slave Trade, 1765-1774.” Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, 80:2 (April 1972), 141-157. Does anyone have a citation for that ct. I believe it may be An Act for continuing and amending several acts, and the reviving of one ct, for laying duties upon slaves imported, Act of February 1772, ILLIAM WALTER HENING, HENING’S STATUTES AT LARGE 8:530. However, I would appreciate it if anyone can confirm that or has a the ight act. In addition, does anyone have a citation to the King's overruling the ct. I assume it may be some British source. Off list is ok. Thanks n advance. Happy holidays to all from the winter wonderland of Albany, where it has een snowing continuously for the last 24 hours and shows no sign of topping.
