Dear D. Ethridge, Under normal circumstances a person's personal life is just that, however so many lies have been written about the Sally Hemings connection, even though it was proven by the DNA that the old Callender Campaign Lies of 1802 were lies and the mishandling of the story and handling of a Jefferson-Hemings DNA have been well explained there are people inclined to find him guilty for "their own agendas." A vast array of agendas abound because he owned slaves, so "therefore" he MUST have sired slave children........didn't they all do it? In TJ's case NO, nothing has been shown as proof that he fathered any slave child. Read the Scholars Commission Report from web page (www.tjheritage.org). It is his and our country's history that is being trampled in the name of political correctness and historical revisionism by "some" younger historians and uninformed and misguided authors. This misinformation is being used in our educational systems and that is why I and many others are informing you and our many citizens and grateful admirers of TJ around the world that some people in trust of history are not as some may think them to be. Just as in medicine.....ALWAYS ask for a second opinion if you doubt what you are reading and hearing at historical sites. Herb Barger www.angelfire.com/va/TJTruth Thomas Jefferson-Sally Hemings DNA Study With all due respect to the historians, educators, authors & other list members, I'm having a difficult time understanding why the circumstances of Jefferson's private life are of any particular importance or interest to anyone but the families of the deceased parties involved in this personal situation that happened so many years ago. It isn't exactly "breaking news" that he owned slaves, was a single man at the time and she was attractive, vulnerable and available with few consequences as a result of the liaison. Also, not a startling fact is that he isn't the first president, nor will he be the last, who fell from earthly "grace" because of his human condition. He was a man of his day & time, extraordinarily gifted in so many ways but still a fallible being...period. What am I missing as to the reason for this huge interest in this subject? Thanks, D.
