Between 1867 and 1877, more than 3,000 free African Americans and their white allies were killed in cold blood by terrorist organizations in the South. The Bloody Shirt brings to life this era through the intertwining lives of five courageous men who dared to resist the violence and keep the dream of freedom and liberty alive. Friday, May 2, 2008 The Place to Be: Washington, CBS, and the Glory Days of Television News by Roger Mudd Noon–1 pm FREE EVENT Veteran television news correspondent and anchor Roger Mudd will discuss and sign his new book The Place to Be: Washington, CBS, and the Glory Days of Television News. Mudd’s memoir, based on his own notes and extensive interviews, looks back at his 20 years in the CBS News Washington bureau. Now about to turn 80, Mudd left CBS in anger when he was passed over to succeed Walter Cronkite, going on to report for NBC and narrate at the History Channel before retiring. The Library of Virginia is located at 800 East Broad Street in downtown Richmond. Free parking is available underneath the building.
