Va-Hist Subscribers: Some time on Friday morning, 1 April 2008, a routing instruction for the server that receives and delivers Va-Hist messages went on the blink or was wrongly programmed. The result is that all messages to the list from subscribers have automatically been rejected as if faulty until mid-day today. Including mine. This did not happen because of anything that anybody in the Library of Virginia did, and it is not anything that anybody at the Library of Virginia could control or amend. All of the computers of the Commonwealth of Virginia, including those in the Library of Virginia, are operated and maintained by the Virginia Information Technologies Agency under contract with the state. It is part of the "privatizing" (a hateful word) (a hateful public policy) of the procurement and operations of all of the computer systems for all of the state agencies. Please listen closely to this: THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THAT WE CAN DO AT THE LIBRARY OF VIRGINIA ABOUT THIS DISRUPTION AND INTERRUPTION OF AN ONLINE SERVICE WE ARE PROUD TO PROVIDE WHEN WE CAN.
