Greetings Va-Hist listers, Once again, February is upon us and you know what that means? It is Black History Month! This year VCU Libraries' sixth annual Black History Month program highlights the historic contributions of three Richmond women during the Civil Rights movement. Their monumental, exciting work changed our state, our city, and the VCU campus for the better. On 12 February at 7:30 p.m. in the Commonwealth Ballrooms of the Student Commons, Richmond's own Ora Lomax, Elizabeth Johnson Rice, and Hilda Warden will answer questions about their participation in the Civil Rights movement. The event is moderated by Richmond Free Press journalist Bonnie Winston, who is a trailblazer in her own right. For more information about the panelists and Mrs. Winston, please read brief biographies of the four women located on the library's Black History Month webpage (www.library.vcu.edu/bhm). The sixth annual VCU Libraries Black History Month Lecture is sponsored by the VCU Friends of the Library. Please join the Friends and the rest of the VCU community to honor these three women who played a pivotal but often unrecognized role in the Richmond Civil Rights movement. Please also browse around on the revamped VCU Libraries' Black History Month webpage. Links to Special Collections, Research Guides, and Multimedia provide information for patrons wishing to learn more about African American history.
