Thanks for posting the reference to the Barnes dissertation. It might have
some information on Thomas Jefferson's blacksmith, Isaac Jefferson, who
ended up in Petersburg, apparently free -- but no one can figure out exactly
how he got there. He is the former slave who gave a long, extremely valuable
interview about life at Monticello, published in "Jefferson at Monticello,"
edited by James Bear.
