DIRECTOR - COLLECTION MANAGEMENT SERVICES DIVISION POSITION #102 SALARY RANGE $75,000 - $90,000 The Library of Virginia is seeking a dynamic and experienced candidate to administer our Collection Management Services Division, responsible for providing high-quality, innovative, and user-oriented service to internal and external customers of the Library. The ideal candidate will be adept at refining and adopting new technologies and practices in the library and information science field and in further advancing the Library's significant collection-development and conservation-preservation programs. The Division is responsible for the acquisition, cataloging, and care of the Library's extensive book, periodical, government, and special collections through the work of four departments: library technical services, government documents (including both state and federal publications), special collections (including rare books, prints and photographs, and other materials), and the Virginia Newspaper Project, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Division also provides public services through the Library's Government Documents and Special Collections Reading Rooms. The Division, in addition, administers a significant portion of the Library's conservation-preservation program, with responsibility for coordinating services through two onsite and two out-of-state laboratories. The Division Director also serves as a member of the Executive Management Team that sets policy and provides strategic direction for the Library. The Library of Virginia serves the archival and research needs of Virginians as the Commonwealth's archival agency, the reference library at the seat of government, and as one of the nation's premier research institutions. To be considered for the position, candidates must possess the following: * A master's degree from an accredited university with a concentration in library and information science, history, or other field related to the Library's mission. * Considerable experience in program management and administration in an academic, state or public library, museum, historical society, archival agency or similar research or educational organization. * Experience in budget preparation and management. * Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of library administration and program management, with experience in the areas of collection management, conservation-preservation, and public services. * Comprehensive knowledge of US and Virginia history. * Working knowledge of computer systems and software currently used in the library profession. * Demonstrated ability to communicate well in writing, conversation, and formal presentations. * Demonstrated ability to assemble, organize, motivate, and lead a professional staff effectively. * Demonstrated ability to work well with a wide variety of professional, support, and clerical staff and with public officials at all levels of government. * Ability to advise agency management on organizational and operational issues. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for requirements.
