Here's another public event connected with the meeting of the Southern Historical Association in Richmond this week.

The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University invite you to a public presentation on "Historical Perspectives on Health Disparities and African Americans in Virginia."

It will take place on Thursday, November 1, 2007, at the Hermes A. Kontos Medical Sciences Building Auditorium, 1217 East Marshall Street, at the MCV campus. There will be a reception from 5-6 p.m. prior to the session.

Dr. Roice D. Luke, professor of Health Administration and co-chair of the Freedmen Project, and Sheryl Garland, VCU Center for Health Disparities, will present "The Freedmen, Jim Crow, and Hospital Segregation in Richmond," and Dr. Wally R. Smith, VCU Center for Health Disparities, will discuss "Health Disparities in Virginia."

The keynote speaker is Dr. Rodney G. Hood, of the University of California-San Diego Medical School. He is a former president of the National Medical Association and the CEO and president of the Multicultural Health Foundation.

Dr. Hood will speak on "Historical and Contemporary Prespectives on Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities."
