Reminiscences of Peace and War by Mrs. Roger Pryor Available for download as a pdf document at: http://books.google.com/books? id=W4EhAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA3&dq=reminiscences+of+peace+and+war Reminiscences of Peace and War is a woman's eye view of the Civil War as given by a Confederate general's wife. Concentrating on the effect the war had on her family, it is notable for the social history of the war. She relates, for example, a letter from a friend in Richmond in January 1863 who tells her that Victor Hugo's Les Miserables is then all the rage there, both among civilians and soldiers. While this does not add much to the overall history of the war itself, it is to my way of thinking a fascinating glimpse of this very tumultuous time.
