I agree. When you vote with your feet in such a society there have to  
be powerful motivators. Just to finish my initial comparative  
observation, of two admittedly non-equivalent circumstances,  one  
sees the same.  Individuals broke out of the Soviet camp and camp  
cities in Siberia, choosing arctic and sub-arctic wilderness of  
untold vastness to staying.
