I admit that I am one of those who demonize Plecker.  We demonize him because he conveniently puts a human face on the racism that was going on in Virginia during the 20th Century.  He was an authority figure, and someone who used his power to do many terrible things, not only to Native Americans, but to African Americans as well.  My grandmother and her family were some of those who were afraid to admit that they were Indian because of Plecker.

Just a note to James about his previous e-mail.  Rosa Parks made her stand in Montgomery, AL, not Birmingham, AL.  Just wanted to get the facts straight!
